Brain-Building Activity #8: Family Dance Party!
Turn on some tunes and cut a rug together. For young children, the goofier the dance is, the better: shake a leg, wiggle your hips, whip your hair back and forth! Can your pint-size partner copy your moves? Next song, it’s his turn to lead. Go back and forth until you’re all danced out!
Dancing teaches your child to pay attention to sounds and rhythm—in fact, by learning to recognize these patterns, he will understand math and number sequences, too! Dancing together also gives him a chance to lead—and that’s a really good feeling for little kids.
