Demeisha, working mother of two
They are a military family.
Demeisha is a mother of two working as a substance abuse therapist while getting her master’s degree. Her husband recently returned from military deployment, but she’s been parenting solo through the pandemic. Hear her full story of trial and triumph.
“I’m really grateful for both of my children. Our 1-year-old is also known as ‘Bam Bam’ because he’s so wild, and our oldest … he’s a keen young man.
The beginning of 2020 was pretty rough. I was dealing with postpartum depression and my husband was deployed for the majority of this year. Single parenting was tough and I went home to Texas to get more support. Obviously, we were in the pandemic. It’s been ‘crazy corona’ which halted my husband’s orders to come back home. So, I moved by myself back here and got our house set up on base. It was hectic but it was a sweet hectic because my husband was coming back.
2020 has been a lot for a lot of people, not just my family. I’m having conversations with my children about being black boys, even at three and one. Despite all the obstacles, I’ve been situationally aware, and we’ve tried not to let it affect our core.
I’m very grateful for KinderCare. If there are ever any concerns that I have, the directors here are always willing to listen and I can always contact them. It’s hard to leave my kid at the door—especially with COVID—but I really love their strict health and safety procedures. They’ve given me all the reassurance that I need as a mom.”
